Abstract: Asterisk as a Key Telephone System (KTS) ... is there any hope ?
For an office phone system, KTS mode of operation is overwhelmingly favoured by the small business segment. But for various reasons, Asterisk-based phone systems only adequately support a PBX mode of operation. This lack of a quality KTS mode of operation has hindered successful market penetration of Asterisk-based phone systems to the lucrative small office market.
This session will examine the operating differences between PBX and KTS phone systems. It will walk the participants through the arcane phone system acronyms such as KTS, PBX, SLA and BLF and discuss critical user interface expectations. The session will then outline the present state of Asterisk KTS support, and highlight the various reasons hindering successful acceptance in the marketplace. Lastly, the session will explore how these obstacles can be overcome, and provide a roadmap to a credible KTS solution with Asterisk.
